“Vivekananda—An Ancient Silence-Heart”
Last modified November 22, 2008
It features selections from 39 Peace Concerts given by Sri Chinmoy in 1993. The concerts were offered by Sri Chinmoy to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the inaugural World Parliament of Religions held in Chicago (1893), and Swami Vivekananda’s auspicious role in this event.
The album includes performances on Sri Chinmoy’s favourite instruments, such as esraj, flute, piano and Cello. It also includes songs dedicated to Swami Vivekananda (#12), and traditional Indian songs (#8).
The first track is a recording of Sri Chinmoy reciting short poems he wrote about Swami Vivekananda. The first three poems are:
“God’s proud possession was
Vivekananda’s ancient silence-heart.
God’s proud possession was
Vivekananda’s modern dynamism-life.
–
Sri Ramakrishna’s proud possession was
His heart’s fondness-child,
Naren.
–
Mother India’s proud possession was
Vivekananda’s
India-transformation-determination-fire.”
– Sri Chinmoy, Vivekananda: an ancient silence-heart and a modern dynamism-life.
Comment on album
by Kamalakanta Nieves
Swami Vivekananda first came to America in 1893, to represent Hinduism in the first World Parliament of Religions. This magnificent event hosted representatives from all the religions of the world, in an effort to create international understanding and oneness among people from all faiths.
But it was Swami Vivekananda who captured the heart and soul of the audience, with his simplicity, sincerity and breath of scope, but above all, with his all-embracing heart.
Swami Vivekananda was a mind of illumination and a heart of transformation. With his illumination-mind, he expounded on the sublime truths of life. With his transformation-heart, he embraced the whole world and claimed it as his own, very own. This all-embracing love transformed the world into his admiring friend, forever one.
Whether talking about the union of Buddhism and Hinduism, about the ideal of a universal religion, or about Bhakti Yoga, Vivekananda roared like a lion of the inner world, awakening all those who heard his clarion-call.
Sri Chinmoy is all admiration and adoration towards Swami Vivekananda, and has been blessed twice with the honor of opening the World Parliament of Religions with a silent meditation. The first time this happened was in 1993 in Chicago, on the 100th Anniversary of the original Parliament of religions, and in 2004 in Barcelona as well.
In every aspect, both human and divine, Swami Vivekananda is an example we can all follow on the Path of Truth.
