Adhiratha Keefe talks about his experiences of long distance swimming inspired by Sri Chinmoy’s philosophy of self-transcendence. Adhiratha was one of the first team members from Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team to swim the English Channel in 1985.
Sri Chinmoy composed songs for both Adiratha Keefe and Vasanti Niemz, as a tribute to their achievements. They were the first two members of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team to complete the channel crossing in 1985. Members of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team have made over forty Channel Crossings – the most by any athletic organisation.
During 1986, Adhiratha with four other members of the Peace Meditation group, staff members of the United Nations Secretariat and UNICEF, undertook a number of “Swims for Peace” to draw attention to the United Nations International Year of Peace.
