Sri Chinmoy highly appreciated the simplicity and purity of this kind of unaccompanied singing, and acapella group singing performances were a frequent feature of the meditations he held with his students.
The group was founded in 2011 by Snatak Matthíasson. Snatak owns the Sangitamiya music store in Reykjavik, Iceland, and organised Sri Chinmoy’s concert performances in that country in 1988, 1999, 2000 and 2003. The first tour performed by the group was around the churches of Iceland; the next year they visited the Buddhist temples of Myanmar.
This tour took the singers to many noted ancient and modern landmarks of spirituality in Scotland, including Iona Abbey, St Mungo’s and St Andrew’s cathedrals in Glasgow, Rosslyn Chapel (see photo), Samye Ling Buddhist Monastery, Whithorn Priory and Pluscarden Abbey.
