These recordings were made on 14 April 1982 when Sri Chinmoy honoured the Centenary of his father’s Birthday at a function in New York.
From the jacket notes:
“On April 14th, 1982, Sri Chinmoy and his students observed the birth centenary of Shashi Kumar Ghosh, Sri Chinmoy’s father. This took place at Thomas Edison High School in Jamaica, New York.
Sri Chinmoy began by reciting the translation of Shashi Kumar Ghosh, the Bengali song he wrote for this father. He then read aloud the introduction and all forty poems of his 500th book, “I am ready“. Finally, he spontaneously set tune to the one hundred poems of part 33 of his Ten Thousand flower-Flames poetry series. These two books had just been published, and were dedicated by the author to his father.
Musical and dramatic performances by Sri Chinmoy’s students followed, and the night ended with a 100-course meal. This CD contains Sri Chinmoy’s recitations and 88 of his songs.”

Sri Chinmoy’s father, Shashi Kumar Ghose was a railway inspector in Bengal. Although orphaned at an early age, Sri Chinmoy maintained gratitude for the inspiration and encouragement of his father throughout his life.
Sri Chinmoy also published a book “My father Shashi Kumar Ghose“ where he relates sweet and illumining stories from his childhood.
