As a spiritual Teacher, Sri Chinmoy was unique, in the sense that he was a true Renaissance man – he was a prolific writer (more than 1,500 books), composer (20,000 songs), musician (800 free concerts in his lifetime), artist (more than 100,000 paintings and millions of bird drawings), as well as an avid athlete (sprinter, decathlete, marathon and ultra-marathon runner).
His songs spring from his heart of love for God and for humanity, and they speak of the myriad states of consciousness that human beings experience in their journey towards the Highest. From the pangs of separation to the delight of ecstasy, Sri Chinmoy’s songs cover the universal experience of man evolving towards perfection, self-knowledge and illumination.
Sri Chinmoy’s students come from all walks of life and from many different cultures. They share their love for the spiritual life, for Sri Chinmoy and for humanity. There are many ways to serve humanity, and spiritual music is one of them – it is a music filled with peace, light and bliss, a music that expands and deepens our consciousness.
Through his songs and his concerts, Sri Chinmoy strived to share moments of peace and inner beauty with the general public. His concerts were always offered free of charge; anyone could attend. When he played or sang, he did so from a deep meditative state.
In this selection from our August 2014 Celebrations, we want to share with you the beauty and peace of Sri Chinmoy’s music, performed by his students.
We hope you find inspiration and peace in these soulful musical offerings.
