For this episode I have chosen two stories from Sri Chinmoy’s book “Gopal’s Eternal Brother and Other Stories For Children.” All of the stories illustrate and highlight important spiritual truths and everyday common sense for the growing child. Parables and stories play such a significant role in the development of the young and old alike. Life’s teachings are often more easily understood and accepted when cloaked, as it were, in an entertaining and inspiring story. All children love a good story and in this book there is no shortage of them: sad, funny, touching and sweet. These rich and striking stories are most definitely from the heart of the world. I am joined this week by musician Karl Harris who improvises on double bass and drums.

Blessing Or Curse
King Briksha was a very powerful and cunning man. His thirst for a most destructive boon lead him to the Himalayas where he prayed to Lord Shiva for years. It was an awesome skill that caught even Shiva off guard.

A Child’s God
This sweet story is by Mridu Bhashini Devi and is translated from the original Bengali by Sri Chinmoy. It occurs one day to the young boy Gulu to find God, and so he begins his search in the most obvious place. But he soon discovers that it is a game of hide and seek and that God can take on many forms.
