Thought of the Day: On The Berlin Wall and Oneness
Last modified June 4, 2007
Sanjaya has been studying meditation with Sri Chinmoy, who has dedicated his life to foster individual and collective harmony.
In a vast range of worldwide initiatives, Sri Chinmoy has touched and inspired the lives of millions of individuals, through constructive and elevating activities in the fields of sport, art, music, literature and humanitarian work.
One great example of this is the World Harmony Run, a worldwide torch relay for world harmony and friendship. In this annual relay, founded by Sri Chinmoy in 1987, a team of runners carries a flaming torch, passed from hand to hand. In whichever route they cover in a particular country, the public is invited to walk or run with the torch. People of all ages, religions, cultures and social condition share the common aspiration for world harmony, and this event serves as an instrument through which they can express it. Since 1987, millions of people in more than 100 countries in all continents have held the torch. World leaders have also expressed their support for this wonderful event.
Many world leaders, including Pope John Paul II, Mother Theresa, Mikhail Gorbachev and Nelson Mandela have expressed their support by holding the torch. Celebrities and luminaries in all walks of life have also held the torch. Among them, Paul McCartney, Muhammad Ali, Carl Lewis, Tegla Loroupe, Grete Waitz and many others have also participated.
We are grateful to Sanjaya for his invaluable contributions to world harmony.
