Inspiration Sounds 43

Last modified April 6, 2008

These stories were told to Sri Chinmoy when he was a child. He would in turn tell them to his students. Some are entertaining, some are illumining; and some have both entertainment and illumination.

In the introduction to one of his books of stories, Sri Chinmoy says:

“These are not my own stories. These are ancient stories. I do not claim even an iota of originality. The original authors are buried in oblivion, but the successors are following in the footsteps of their predecessors with gorgeous embellishment. I, too, have indulged lavishly in my own way of embellishment. Long live my humour-wisdom-flooded predecessors, who loved anonymity.

May these tales liberate us from the heavy dryness of the mind, and may they transform the dryness of the mind into an ever-blossoming fountain-ecstasy.”

– Sri Chinmoy

In this episode of Inspiration-Sounds, Budhsamudra brings us two stories: The Thief’s New Profession and Arjuna Visits Five Sacred Places.

From the first story we learn some basic life-lessons about honesty and hard work. In the second story we see how special Arjuna was, and how he was destined to do great things while he was here on Earth.

Our gratitude to Budhsamudra for his excellent dramatization of these enchanting tales from India’s lore.
