To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Reykjavik Sri Chinmoy Centre, Sri Chinmoy‘s students in Iceland offered a soulful concert. This recording offers some selected highlights from the concert featuring the music of Sri Chinmoy.
Some notes on the concert:
“On July, 2014, a special Songs of the Soul concert was held in Reykjavik’s famous Frikirkjan church to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Icelandic Sri Chinmoy Centre. Among the performances was the Swiss group Mountain-Silence and a music group from the Icelandic Centre, whose performance is featured in this recording. The opening song ‘Asha Tomar’ was written by Sri Chinmoy in Iceland in 1988 – here, it is played by Laufey Haraldsdottir on the large church organ. We were also very fortunate to have visiting musicians Prachar Stegemann and Vilas Silverton join us, as well as some singers from Mountain-Silence.
Arrangements of music were made by Subhallabha Torafsson, Laufey Haraldsdottir, and Hridananda Andrés Ramón – there is a very strong musical tradition in the Icelandic Centre. Subhallabha previously produced the Mantric Flowers CD, and you can also find many of Hridananda’s compositions on Radio Sri Chinmoy.”
We hope you enjoy this beautiful and soulful collection of vocal and instrumental arrangements of Sri Chinmoy’s songs.
