On December 7, 2013, the New York Sri Chinmoy Centre observed Nelson Mandela’s passing with a special function in which various groups performed Sri Chinmoy’s music. This recording features three songs by the group Sangi Surabhi, a female ensemble from Canada.
Sangit Surabhi – 3 songs
Last modified December 9, 2013
This group has an exquisite vocal and instrumental sound, including harp and guitar, and sometimes also violin and flute.
During the evening function, Sri Chinmoy’s students offered their prayerful respects to President Nelson Mandela. Sri Chinmoy and Nelson Mandela met on numerous occasions. Sri Chinmoy said of Nelson Mandela:
“Beloved President Mandela, O Founding Father of a free and democratic South Africa, your sacred covenant with your people shall forever and forever last. The rainbow nation shall shine for all Eternity with its many brilliant and glorious colours. None can dim its light. None can dull its splendour.”
Sri Chinmoy also honored Nelson Mandela by lifting him as part of the “Lifting up the World with a Oneness-Heart” program, and also conferred upon President Mandela the U-Thant Peace Award, for his outstanding work for world peace.
Sangit Surabhi’s musical interpretation of Sri Chinmoy’s melodies helped us to maintain a meditative consciousness, full of peace and beauty. We hope you also enjoy this special musical and spiritual offering by Sangit Surabhi.
