Sri Chinmoy’s New York Students

Last modified May 11, 2008

Dear listeners, it is with great joy and pride that we present you with this live recording of Sri Chinmoy’s local students in New York, performing a soulful and dynamic medley of Sri Chinmoy’s melodies.

This performance, flooded with oneness and harmony, was a momentous offering to all our brothers and sisters, who had come from all over the world to celebrate the 44th Anniversary of Sri Chinmoy’s arrival in America (April 13, 1964).

The arrangement was done by Paree Atkin, a very talented musician and student of Sri Chinmoy who is well known for her vocal arrangements. In this particular project Paree manifested a bigger vision, encompassing singers and musicians in one concerted effort.

The selection of songs for this medley is most poignant, given the fact that Sri Chinmoy left the body on October 11, 2007. The words of the songs talk about loss and faith, about God’s assurance to the seeker, and the seeker’s proclamation of victory through oneness with his/her Master and God’s Will.

Here are Sri Chinmoy’s words for some of the songs and poems selected for this medley:

(Ki Jena Phelechi)
It seems that I have lost something somewhere.
My eyes are pining for it,
My heart is pining for it,
But it is all hidden.
from time immemorial
You have been playing hide and seek with me.
This much I can recollect, that’s all.

* * *

My Dear Lord, how can I live
Without Your Life’s Compassion-Eye?
My Sweet Lord, how can I breathe
Without Your Heart’s Forgiveness-Sky?

* * *

(Ke Jena Kahiche Ati Khina Sware)
It seems that someone is telling me
In a very faint voice,
“No fear, no fear!
Since your dream of pleasure
Has come to an end,
Follow me to drink nectar
In the world of immortality.”

* * *

Because my Master’s Voice is my choice,
I rejoice, I rejoice, I rejoice.

* * *

Inside my Master’s smile
I see my new world blooming.

* * *

(Mane Pare Jena Ati Dure)
It seems that I have entered
Into a very far-off land
And I have brought with me
The strength and courage to return.
I do not know where my Eternity’s wealth is hiding.
Alas, alas, my consciousness-life
Is yet half asleep.

* * *

All Your Grace, all Your Grace, all Your Grace,
My Lord Beloved Supreme,
All your Grace, all Your Grace!
My soul and I are able to join
In Your Birthless and Deathless Race.”

* * *

Your Victory will blossom in my life. My world will have only the dust of Your Feet.

—Sri Chinmoy
