Vedic Fire offer a live performance of Sanskrit mantras set to music by Sri Chinmoy.
Songs include Asato ma sad gamaya. The translation of this ancient mantra is:
Lead me from the unreal to the Real.
Lead me from darkness to Light.
Lead me from death to Immortality.
Commentary (by Sri Chinmoy):
The unreal in us desires the pleasure-life of the finite. The Real in us aspires for the God-Life of the Infinite.
Darkness is the discoverer of the doubting and frustrated mind. Light is the discoverer of the aspiring and dedicated heart.
Death — where is the cat? Miaowing nowhere. Immortality — where is the lion? Roaring all-where.
Sri Chinmoy, The Upanishads: the Crown of India’s Soul, Agni Press, 1974
Comment on Vedic Fire performance
On December 4, 2015, as part of our group meditation, Vedic Fire offered a soulful and sublime performance at Aspiration-Ground. This vocal ensemble (accompanied only by a harmonium) shares Sri Chinmoy’s devotional songs in a contemplative, soulful way. Vedic Fire’s music has an intrinsic mantric quality. It made our meditation deeper and higher.
Our gratitude to Vedic Fire for this soulful offering.
